How to convert a scanned PDF to editable Word
Updated 2026-10-07
Why scanned PDFs are different
When a document is scanned or photographed, the PDF holds a picture of each page — there are no letters in it, only pixels. Converting it straight to Word gives you pictures, not text. The text first has to be read by OCR (optical character recognition).
Step 1: OCR the PDF
- Open OCR PDF.
- Add the scan and choose its language — English, Hindi, or both for mixed documents.
- Press “Make searchable” and download.
Step 2: Convert to Word
- Open PDF to Word.
- Add the searchable PDF from step 1.
- Press “Convert to Word” and open the DOCX in Word or Google Docs.
Getting the best accuracy
Clear, straight, high-contrast scans read best. Very small print, handwriting and decorative fonts reduce accuracy — always proof-read names and numbers.
